What are Exit Permit EPO and ERP for? – There are a lot of job opportunities in Indonesia which allow local people or expatriates to work in this area. For the expatriates, of course they need a working permit or KITAS to work legally in Indonesia. The usual employment contract period in Indonesia is 1 year then they renew it again every year which also relate to their working permit period.

In each year, there will be a chance whether they want to extend to work in Indonesia or not. For the ones who are planning to extend their work in the same company they are in, they just need to renew their KITAS here but no need to do an Exit Permit Only (EPO). But, if they are planning to change the company but still in Indonesia, they need to do an EPO first, exit Indonesia, then apply for a new KITAS with that new company as a sponsor.

Another case, if the expatriates still have an active KITAS but they are mainly outside of Indonesia and want to come back to Indonesia, with the same sponsor, they can just enter Indonesia again. On the other hand, if their KITAS is still active but they want to come back to Indonesia with another sponsor (i.e. change the company), the previous Indonesian sponsor needs to manage the expatriates’ Exit Re-Entry Permit (ERP). So the new sponsor can apply new KITAS for them.

Both ERP and EPO can be managed for expatriates who want to exit Indonesia for good and not planning to come back or the ones who are only want to change the job/company as their KITAS sponsor.
