Increase of BPJS Healthcare Premiums – The news for your company that has been registered as a BPJS participant, does your company provide BPJS healthcare for its employees as their benefit?

If yes, starting as of January 1, 2020, through Presidential Regulation (PERPRES) Number 75 of 2019, which contains amendments to the Presidential Regulation (PERPRES) Number 82 of 2018 Health Insurance, which mentions an increase in BPJS healthcare premiums.

Increase of BPJS Healthcare

The regulation for the increase in the BPJS healthcare which were approved by President Joko Widodo on October 24, 2019, are as follows:

Participants Receiving Premium Assistance (PBI)

a. The premium increase for PBI participants registered by the Local Government is Rp. 19,000 per person per month, a premium that was previously Rp. 23,000 per person per month to Rp. 42,000 per person per month.

b. The increase in premiums for PBI participants receive subsidies from the central government which are distributed to local governments which take effect as of August 1, 2019.

Non-Wage Worker Participants (PBPU) and Non-Workers (BP) or Independent Participants

a. Starting on January 1, 2020, PBPU participants, BP, and independent participants also increased by 100%.

b. Class 1: from Rp. 80,000 per person per month to Rp. 160,000.

c. Class 2: from Rp. 51,000 per person per month to Rp. 110,000.

d. Class 3: from Rp. 25,500 per person per month to Rp. 42,000.

3. Wage Worker Participants (PPU)

a. PPU participant premium is set at 5% of the salary received or the highest salary limit used as the basis for calculating PPU participant premiums which were previously 8 million rupiah to 12 million rupiah.

b. The premium of 5% of the salary is paid jointly between the employer and PPU participants, with the following conditions:

 i. 4% is paid by the employer
ii. 1% is paid by PPU participants

c. Who is included in PPU? PPU participants consist of State Officials, Leaders and Members of Parliament, Military Soldiers, Civil Servants (PNS), Members of the National Police, Village Heads, Village Officials and also Private Workers or Employees.
