What is BPJS?

The Social Security Administering Body (BPJS) is a public legal entity established to administer social programs. BPJS itself is divided into two, namely: BPJS Health and BPJS Employment. Here’s the explanation

BPJS Health

BPJS Kesehatan Expat

The Social Security Administering Body (BPJS) for Health is a legal entity established to administer the health insurance program.

BPJS Employment

BPJS Ketenagakerjaan is an abbreviation of the Social Security Administering Body which is a public legal entity tasked with protecting all workers through 4 employment social security programs.

Social security such as BPJS Employment is very necessary because socio-economic risks can occur anytime, anyone and anywhere. Including protection from uncertainties such as work accidents, illness, death, retirement, and so on.

According to the Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 40 of 2004 concerning the National Social Security System, Article 13 states, “Employers must gradually register themselves and their workers as participants with the Social Security Administering Body, in accordance with the social security program being followed.

What are the Types of Social Security?

Social security includes:

+ Health Insurance
+ Work Accident Insurance

Old Age Guarantee (JHT)

This type of program really helps you when it comes to times when you are no longer productive. So, when you are no longer working due to age limitations, you will get some money from the government to make ends meet.

Work Accident Insurance (JKK)

The JKK program is a type of guarantee provided in order to protect workers from possible occupational risks in the form of work accidents.

Death Insurance (JK)

When a worker registered in the JKM program dies while still active as an employee not due to a work accident, he is entitled to a certain amount of funds. The funds are handed over to the heirs.

Pension Guarantee (JP)

A person who works will definitely experience retirement, either because of disability, age, death, or permanent mutation outside the country of Indonesia. When you enter that period, you can still maintain a state of well-being by joining the program.

Notes:

Of the four programs, foreign workers are only related to three programs, the participation of the JP program for foreign workers is not regulated.

Sanctions Given to Companies not Participating in BPJS for Employment

Any company that does not include its employees, both foreign and local, in the BPJS Employment program will receive administrative sanctions in the form of:

  1. Written warning by BPJS;
  2. Fines imposed by BPJS;
  3. Not getting certain public services that will be carried out by the Government at the request of BPJS;

Sanctions for not receiving certain public services that are imposed on the Employer include:

  1. Licensing related to business;
  2. Permits required to participate in project tenders;
  3. Permit to employ foreign workers;
  4. Worker/labor service provider company license;

How is BPJS Employment and Health Calculated for TKA

The general way of calculating BPJS Employment is by calculating the insurance program contributions into two groups, namely the BPJS allowance provided by the company and the BPJS deduction which is deducted from the employee’s monthly salary.

The basis of the BPJS calculation multiplier is the employee’s wages, namely the basic salary and fixed allowances.

Work Accident Insurance Contribution (JKK)

To calculate the JKK contribution, it is necessary to know in advance the level of risk in the work environment, business sector, or type of work. There are five categories of work environment risk levels as stated in Article 16 of PP No. 44 of 2015.

Risk level JKK fee calculation
Very low 0.24% x monthly wages
Low 0.54% x monthly wages
Middle 0.89% x monthly wages
Big 1.37% x monthly wages
Very Big 1.74% x monthly wages

The conditions are as follows:

a. The basis for the multiplier of JKK contributions is a month’s wages.
b. If wages are paid daily, then the monthly wage is calculated from the daily wage multiplied by 25.
c. If wages are paid in piece or piece, then the monthly wage is calculated from the average wage for the last 3 months.

Death Insurance Contribution (JKM)

The amount of the JKM contribution is 0.30% of the wage which is entirely paid by the employer/employer through the JKM allowance. Similar to JKK, JKM also includes components that increase gross income which is subject to PPh 21 income tax.

Old Age Security Contribution (JHT)

Unlike JKK and JKM, JHT contributions are paid partly by the company and partly by employees as BPJS participants. The amount of the JHT contribution is 5.7% of the wage, provided that:

a. 3.7% provided by the company through JHT benefits.
b. 2% deducted from employee salary.

Pension Guarantee Contribution (JP)

Since March 2020, the highest wage limit as the basis for multiplying the Pension Guarantee contributions is set at IDR 8,939,700. That is, if the wage exceeds the nominal value, in the calculation it is considered to have a wage of Rp. 8,939,700.

JP’s contribution is set at 3% of wages, provided that:

a. 2% given by the company through JP allowance
b. 1% deducted from employee salary.

Benefits of Using BPJS for Foreign Workers (TKA)

  1. All Diseases Covered by BPJS Health;
  2. BPJS Health Guarantees Excluded Diseases;
  3. Can bear without seeing the previous conditions;
  4. Premiums are cheap;
  5. Dare to Give Lifetime Guarantee;
  6. Very Easy Payment;

Conclusion

The processing and payment of contributions for foreign workers BPJS participants are basically no different from payments for Indonesian workers BPJS participants. You can register your foreign workers as BPJS participants as soon as possible and make dues payments as usual. Because participation in the BPJS program is mandatory for every company.
