New regulations for entering Indonesia for foreigners (WNA) – The Directorate General of Immigration has updated the regulations restricting foreigners who will enter the Indonesian Territory to prevent the entry of the new variant of COVID-19 B.1.1.529 (Omicron).

Temporary restrictions on foreigners entering Indonesia are stated in regulation / Circular No. IMI-0269.GR.01.01 year 2021. There is information about who is allowed and not allowed to enter the Indonesian Territory.

Here are the Points

1. Temporary refusal to enter the territory of Indonesia for foreigners who have lived and/or visited the territory of the following countries, within 14 (fourteen) days prior to entering the territory of Indonesia;
+ South Africa
+ Botswana
+ Namibia
+ Zimbabwe
+ Lesotho
+ Mozambique
+ Eswatini and
+ Nigerian

2. Temporary suspension of the granting of visit visas and limited stay visas for citizens of the following countries:
+ South Africa
+ Botswana
+ Namibia
+ Zimbabwe
+ Lesotho
+ Mozambique
+ Eswatini and
+ Nigerian

3. The provisions as referred to above, are excluded from foreigners who will attend meetings related to the Indonesian Presidency in the G20.

Regulations restricting the entry of foreigners as well as temporary suspension of visas for these countries will come into effect on Monday, November 29, 2021.

in anticipation of the entry of a new variant of COVID-19 B.1.1.529 (Omicron)

This adjustment is an anticipatory step to prevent the entry of new variants of Covid-19 into Indonesia, by tightening the implementation of health protocols.

Furthermore, in anticipation of the entry of a new variant of COVID-19 B.1.1.529 (Omicron) into Indonesian territory, the Government has again issued a new regulation regarding international travel for foreign nationals (WNA) who wish to enter Indonesia. The Covid-19 Handling Task Force issued Circular (SE) Number 23 of 2021 concerning International Travel Health Protocols during the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Pandemic. In the Circular, the following information is provided:

1. Temporarily close the entry of Foreign Citizens (WNA), either directly or in transit in a foreign country, who have lived and/or visited within 14 (fourteen) days from the country/region with the following criteria:

a). Confirmed community transmission of a new variant of SARS-CoV-2 B.1.1.529:
+ South Africa
+ Botswana
+ Hong Kong and

b). Countries/territories that are geographically close to the country of transmission of the new variant B.1.1.529 community transmission of cases significantly:
+ Angola
+ Zambia,
+ Zimbabwe
+ Malawi
+ Mozambique
+ Namibia
+ Eswatini and
+ Lesotho.

2. Temporary closure of the entry of foreigners into the territory of Indonesia, either directly or in transit in foreign countries, except for travelers who meet the following criteria.

a). Do not have a history of travel and/or stay within 14 (fourteen) days from the country/region as referred to above.
b). In accordance with the provisions of the Regulation of the Minister of Law and Human Rights No. 34 of 2021 concerning the Granting of Immigration Visas and Residence Permits in the Period of Handling the 2019 Corona Virus Disease Spread and National Economic Recovery.
c). In accordance with the agreement scheme (bilateral), such as the Travel Corridor Arrangement (TCA); and/or
d). Get special consideration/permission in writing from Relevant Ministries/Agencies.
