Definition of family reunification visa

Family Reunification Limited Stay Visa is a visa that is given not to work, given to foreigners who will join their families in Indonesia.

Subjects that can apply for family reunification visa?

Spouse category

  1. A foreigner who joins a husband or wife of an Indonesian citizen – mixed marriage;
  2. Foreigners joining husbands or wives holding limited stay permits (KITAS) and permanent stay permits (KITAP);

Children category

  1. Children from legal marriages between foreigners and Indonesian citizens;
  2. Children of foreigners who are legally married to Indonesian citizens. Foreigner children here are children who are in the guardianship of foreigners who are legally married to Indonesian citizens. The child must be under the age of 18 and unmarried;
  3. Children who join parents who hold KITAS/KITAP. Children of foreigners who fall into this category are children of legal wedlock from foreigners, under 18 years of age and not yet married.
  4. Children who have a family law relationship with the father and or mother of an Indonesian citizen. For foreigners who have an Indonesian mother/father, or both Indonesian citizens, they can also apply for a family unification visa.

Length of stay for family reunification visa?

The period of stay in Indonesia is given for 6 (six) months/180 days, 1 (one) year and 2 (two) years. A stay permit derived from this visa can be extended.

Procedures and requirements for applying for a family unification visa?

Spouse category

1. A foreigner who joins a husband or wife of an Indonesian citizen – mixed marriage;

  • Application letter and guarantee
  • Passport:

>  Minimum 12 (twelve) months for those who will stay in Indonesian Territory for a maximum period of 180 (one hundred and eighty) days.
>  Minimum 18 (eighteen) months for those who will live in Indonesian Territory for a maximum period of 1 (one) year; and or
>  at least 30 (thirty) months for those who will live in Indonesian Territory for a maximum period of 2 (two) years.

  • An official marriage book or marriage certificate if married in Indonesia or an official proof of marriage from the place where they married and marriage reporting from the Representative of the Republic of Indonesia Abroad (KBRI/KJRI) and Disdukcapil which has been translated into Indonesian by a sworn translator, unless it is already in English, if the marriage is carried out abroad.
  • Bank statement of foreigner or sponsor, at least US$2000 (two thousand US dollars) or equivalent.
  • A recent color photograph with a size of 4 cm x 6 cm, with a white background.

2. Foreigners joining husbands or wives holding limited stay permits (KITAS) and permanent stay permits (KITAP);

  • Application letter and guarantee
  • Passport:

>  Minimum 12 (twelve) months for those who will stay in Indonesian Territory for a maximum period of 180 (one hundred and eighty) days
>  Minimum 18 (eighteen) months for those who will live in Indonesian Territory for a maximum period of 1 (one) year; and or
>  at least 30 (thirty) months for those who will live in Indonesian Territory for a maximum period of 2 (two) years.

  • Marriage certificate/marriage book that has been translated into Indonesian by a sworn translator, unless it is already in English;
  • Bank statement of foreigner or sponsor, at least US$2000 (two thousand US dollars) or equivalent.
  • KITAS/KITAP/Limited Stay Visa for husband/wife that is still valid.
  • A recent color photograph with a size of 4 cm x 6 cm, with a white background.

Children category

  • Application letter and guarantee
  • Passport:

>  Minimum 12 (twelve) months for those who will stay in Indonesian Territory for a maximum period of 180 (one hundred and eighty) days.
>  Minimum 18 (eighteen) months for those who will live in Indonesian Territory for a maximum period of 1 (one) year; and or
>  at least 30 (thirty) months for those who will live in Indonesian Territory for a maximum period of 2 (two) years.

  • An official marriage book or marriage certificate parent, if married in Indonesia or an official proof of marriage from the place where they married and marriage reporting from the Representative of the Republic of Indonesia Abroad (KBRI/KJRI) and Disdukcapil which has been translated into Indonesian by a sworn translator, unless it is already in English, if the marriage is carried out abroad.
  • Birth certificate that has been translated into Indonesian by a sworn translator, unless it is already in English.
  • Identity card (KTP) of the father or mother of a valid Indonesian citizen.
  • Family card (KK) of the father or mother of an Indonesian citizen;
  • Bank statement of foreigner or sponsor, at least US$2000 (two thousand US dollars) or equivalent.
  • A recent color photograph with a size of 4 cm x 6 cm, with a white background.
